The Perfect Female Body Shape, does it exist?

Every woman is beautiful, no matter what her body shape may be.

The perfect female body shape that defines feminine beauty from the past to the present has not changed. This is because much of it relies on media perception. What perhaps may have changed is the male perception of what the perfect body shape is.

And there is a wide range of opinions on the subject that is as diverse as the different body types women have.

Definition of female body shape

The female body shape takes into consideration the outer physical characteristics and proportions of a woman's figure. Such factors to take into consideration are the waist, body mass, and overall body shape, such as hourglass, apple, pear-shaped figures, etc.

However, it is important not to use these categorizations as a measurement of how beautiful or healthy a woman is. Every woman's body is unique and deserving of respect and acceptance.

The media perception of the  “perfect” body shape

The media often portrays a very narrow and unrealistic standard of the "perfect" body shape. Through the movies, television, magazines, fashion walks, and red carpets, the ideal woman, is typically represented as thin, toned, and with specific proportions

Here is where the standards that seem to put everybody in agreement come from.
This is where the ideal woman, who is "every man's dream" is born!

This woman is created perfect and flawless by the media. She is the acceptable standard that drives so many women into thinking that they have bodily imperfections. This causes them to pursue the dream of also having an equally perfect body shape.

Body-Shaming

The media setting unrealistic standards of beauty and body type can have a negative impact on women's body image and self-esteem. This negative impact can drive most women into practicing unhealthy eating habits, thereby developing eating disorders and other related health issues.

But above all, it can lead to body-shaming, where criticizing, mocking, or making negative comments about your or someone else's body shape, size, or appearance becomes the norm.

Body shaming can occur in various forms, including verbal insults, nonverbal gestures, or through social media and other forms of communication. This behavior can cause serious harm to an individual's self-esteem and body image and can lead to serious psychological and emotional problems.

Body types women

Different body shapes define different women, and each woman is a unique individual. This article-different body shapes of women, mentions  the 12 different body shapes of women as being:

1) straight body
2) pearl body
3) apple body
4) spoon body
5) hour-glass body
6) oval body
7) diamond-shaped body
8) top hour-glass body
9) skinny body
10)athletic body
11)lollipop body
12)cornet body

The article directs its attention to women by giving tips and advice on what to wear and what not to wear according to their body shape.

The idea, here, is to make every woman stand out and look beautiful and feel good about themselves through the clothes that they wear in whatever body shape they have.

For example, if you have an hourglass figure, your body is characterized by a balanced upper and lower body with a narrow waist. According to the article,

You have slightly rounded shoulders that align perfectly with your shapely buttocks, and your legs are in proportion with your upper body.

Having this type of body figure requires you to wear certain clothes to accentuate your shape and make you look good. It is quite clear that to bring out the best in you, look at your body shape and align it with clothes that match perfectly well with it.

This brings to mind male preferences when it comes to the ideal shape men prefer. Is it the curvy body type, the apple-shaped body, or what? Media standards are acceptable standards, but preferences are subjective and as such may differ from one man to another.

Male Preferences

In one study on the male preference for different female body shapes, men from 10 different countries were asked to rank different female body shapes on a scale that went from the most attractive body shape to the least attractive body shape.

The consensus among the participants revealed that men preferred female body shapes with a BMI(Body Mass Index) of 19.

This means that any woman having a BMI lower or above 19 would need to make some adjustments to fit that number. But is number 19 on the BMI scale the number of perfection of the female body shape?

In the article-11fashion tips for overweight women, the author of the
the article starts with the premise that,

"Most people around the world are not in perfect shape, but they don’t look bad..." The article gives tips to overweight women and encourages them not to feel bad about themselves, but to,

"start believing that you’re beautiful because you truly are. Your weight is not a scale to measure your beauty, so don’t let it be. Start being happy and once you do that everything will improve, including the way you look."

Easier said than done. This to most women would mean needing all the assurances in the world from friends, partners, husbands, and close acquaintances.

The belief in oneself comes with knowing that a little imperfection can be overlooked if it is not so visible in the public eye. But all it takes is just one negative comment to stir up all the wrong feelings you never had about yourself.

Embracing Your Body Shape

Your body as a woman is unique and something you need to love, cherish and take care of. It doesn't matter which body shape you have, whether, apple, pear, straight, etc.

Understand that your body is unique and identifies you and who you are. Embracing it requires going on a journey of self-love and acceptance.

Yes, the media depiction of female beauty and body shape has been deeply ingrained in you and, like you, so many other women. But you can work towards making changes to how you feel about yourself, by following a few simple steps.

Take proper care of yourself

You do not need anyone to tell you how and what to do to take care of yourself. However,  most women are trapped in self-hatred and negativity that they seem not to care anymore about their physical and mental health.

While you still have a life, cherish your body as much as you can and take good care of it. Also, take care of your mental well-being by not depressing yourself with negative thoughts.

Stop comparing yourself to others

You are unique and beautiful in your own way and through your body figure. That's all you need to care about. Stop comparing how you look to how someone else looks. Cherish your body shape and be proud of it.

Make being healthy your priority

Your health matters more than how someone else looks. Without good health, you will not be able to say you want to wear that gorgeous dress that you have. Everything in life is meaningless if you don't have good health. So focus more on doing the things that will bring you good health.

Always have a positive outlook in life

Be positive and always embrace positivity in your life. Try surrounding yourself with people who can look at you and encourage you to do more for yourself, and avoid surrounding yourself with negative people.

Having flaws is not a bad thing

The media might show you women who look flawless, are confident, and always have a positive outlook in life. But behind all the perfection that you see lies flaws that the cameras don't show you.

Everyone has imperfections, and you have them too. It's perfectly normal to have them, as they are what make us unique. Try to embrace your imperfections and think of them positively.

 Conclusion

Does the perfect female body shape exist? The answer to this question might be subjective, but if we were to answer the question objectively, then it is clear that there is no such thing as the “perfect” female body shape.

Every woman's body shape is unique to her body type. This is the beauty that you must cherish and celebrate every day. If you want to strive for out-of-the-world perfection, that is your individual choice to make.

You must learn to accept your body type and seek to adopt a healthy lifestyle that will enhance both your physical and mental well-being. Unlike in the past, however, there are changes in the way the media presents the perfect female body shape. This is good as it embraces diversity.
